Coalescing Oil Water Separator

This high performance oil water separator (OWS) uses coalescing media packs as its primary enhancement to force free oil droplets together and up to the water surface where they can be skimmed off. Hudson OWS are constructed entirely out of steel and industrial components, offering decades of reliable service.
Our coalescing media creates a laminar flow zone (<500 Reynolds) with cross flow patterns where oil droplets as small as 20 microns can bump into other oil droplets and become one large oil drop. The larger the oil drop, the faster it rises out of the water column. This is how we are able to capture and separate out free oil droplets to effluent values as low as 10 ppm.
Next our manually operated rotating pipe skimmer or our SKIMMO automatic drum skimmer can skim away the collected oil. For every gallon of oily water that enters the separator, a gallon of oil free water exits the effluent connection. See the process flow diagram for more information.

Our OWSs range in size from 1 GPM to 5000 GPM. We specialize in custom engineered solutions for each set of project parameters and specifications.

Coalescing Media Packs
The crossflow corrugated media packs are the heart of our oil water separators. The very quiet laminar flow and the high surface area of oleophilic material forces the oil droplets to coalesce for skimming.

SKIMMO - Drum Skimmer
The SKIMMO is the concept that launched Hudson in 1982. A rotating drum and wiper system that automatically skims the oil layer off the top of the water, with minimal water collection. Great even down to very light oil concentrations that are just oil sheens on top of the water.

Before and After Samples
